Emergencies
I have been involved in a number of emergencies response and relief operations on four different continents. All were with Save the Children. It would probably be very hard for someone today to have the same opportunities I had in Nicaragua and Ethiopia, as most International Non-Governmental Organizations today are much more prepared for emergencies. I find that large-scale relief operations compel a person to think quickly and to pool resources to attend to immediate needs of the affected populations. From an institutional perspective it often entails new funding opportunities as well as new skill sets. It can be challenging as well as very satisfying.
